Scrolling through yesterday's paper's i was well amused by Giles Coren's article on the 2011 census- scroll down to his suggested questions for a good giggle!
In contrast i was totally disappointed (and have been for a week or two) by the Guardian's populist coverage of 'feral youth's in Salford'. A lot of people have been blogging about this recently, especially bloggers involved in youth work, so i'm not going to repeat what they have to say but instead i'll point you in the direction of this on youthblog, this by ben bell and particularly this from barky who points to a particularly pertinent thought for the day.
My disappointment with the press- in particular the Guardian- is that these mistakes have been made before; the black mugger in the seventies, the skinhead in the eightees and now the teenager in the hoody- sweeping generalisations, that are a pathetic attempt at shifting the blame from a society that marginalises people (black/skinhead/teenager) onto the victim of that marginalisation.
