Following yesterday's post about the similarity between emerging church and kid's work Yaz (no blog yet but it can't be long now!) raises an interesting point about the place of teaching in ministry. The training material yesterday read...
"We believe that teaching is the foundation for ministry- jesus said that anyone who hears his words and puts them into practise is like a wise man! We are passionate about helping children to be wise men!"
Teaching as the FOUNDATION for ministry... I think i share Yaz's doubt's largely because i have seen so many people hurt or led astray by very dodgy teaching, but saying that is it different for kid's work? Is there not a special place for didactic teaching amongst those who have little ability to interpret scripture for themselves? Or perhaps that is too patronising...
Incidentally, good to see those doing kid's work using non-inclusive language!!!
