Just added a few more photos to the Edinburgh gallery, should you be interested!
Spent this morning doing training for kids work and it was great. It was led by Dave Godfrey who heads up some really successful kids work in York. The event which he runs has, he says ten underlying principles:
- excellence- ensuring stuff is delivered well
- teaching- as the 'foundation for ministry'
- focus- everything based around a common theme
- fun
- group work- relationships develop best in small groups
- learning styles- auditory/visual/kinaesthetic
- participation
- relevance
- flexibile planning- so that if things go pete tong, or if God directs elsewhere, things can be ditched
- organisation
Although the means are very different it struck me that actually these are pretty good prinicples for all church today, especially the stuff about learning styles. Dave was saying that 39% of people are kinaesthetic learners so they learn best when they are doing... a real challenge to those of us who lead worship in local churches regularly...
Hey Phil
Interesting that no.2 is teaching as the foundation of ministry. Not sure about that? What about exploration, doubt, uncertainty etc. Perhaps that comes later with youthwork and we need to offer certainty to children? Don't know what I think? What do you think Phil? How was it delivered?
