Having watched Hotel Rwanda at the weekend and learnt of the ignorance of the west during that catastrophe, it's sad to see thousands dying in a similarly avoidable situation in Niger (check out the photo guardian photo gallery here). I saw on the news today that eight million people are at risk and there has still been no intervention. Why did Bush and Blair stick their noses into Iraq on humanitarian grounds while choosing to ignore the situation in Niger and Sudan?
Saying that, I guess we all carry some guilt... today I checked out the globalrichlist and found out that 5,457,302,573 people in the world are poorer than me. Maybe a little less finger pointing and a little more coughing up might be necessary!
