This weekend is the Headway Executive (headway being the people who support this site) and it's going good. Spent a bit of time talking about the direction of the Methodist Church today, which was an interesting discussion to be a part of as one who, at the minute, holds a fairly loose affinity to the church.
I find it funny/sad how those who are immersed in the church, which until fairly recently included me, fail to recognise the major problems about it's current performance. I also find it difficult to explain, difficult to put into words those things that make me feel rather less hopeful about the church than other members of the executive...
Incidentally, in case anyone else has a rather long car journey over the next few weeks, on the way down I listened to:
- 3 lectures by the late, great Mike Yaconelli ... they were the most uplifting thing i've heard from the mouth of a preacher in a long time!
- the first of five lectures on the emerging church in which Brian McLaren said he didn't like the term emerging church but prefered emerging edge, because, he argued, it isn't a seperate church but rather a fringe group within every denomination
