LFC takeover

George Gillett and Tom HicksToday the inevitable happened. The mighty reds were taken over by two people who cannot name the five years in which Liverpool won the European cup (for the record 77, 78,  81, 84, 05) and think the  Paisley is a herb that goes on fish.

They seem nice fellas but unsurprisingly I'm not overly enthusiastic about the takeover, not least because the last major donation from one of our new club owners was to George W. Bush!

You may have seen me on the TV this evening...

The_truth_liverpool I've just returned from the fields of Anfield road having witnessed a disappointing performance from the Redman at the hands of Arsenal... but that is only part of the story...

I was fortunate enough to sit in the Kop, which is always an incredible experience but this evening was something else.

15th April 1989 96 Kopites went to watch the mighty Redmen and never returned. Although I was only a seven year old Scouser at the time, I vaguely remember the effect it had; utterly devastating an entire city.

In this context Kelvin MacKenzie, then editor of the Sun, felt it appropriate to print a load of b******s about what happened that day which he still defends.

Today a new campaign launched, rather an attack on low-life MacKenzie. For the first six minutes of the match, and about three minutes before, the entire Kop turned into a mosaic spelling TRUTH and chanted 'Justice for the 96'.

It was incredible.  Uniting with 12,000 others in such a loud & proud way. Shame we lost, but glad I was there to experience it all.

Respect!

Shanks25year_headTwenty five years ago today the man who made Liverpool football club a force to be reckoned with passed away.
Unlike most successful managers, Shankly never won  the European Cup, he left that to his successor (who went on to win it three times), but no-one can doubt he was Liverpool's greatest manager; taking a decidedly average team and making us the most successful football club in England!

A couple of things...

A couple of things have made me smile while I've been on Holiday,

  1. 62e9f2ea4458587cba6aed4984b541d2ac Yell Fire! Michael Franti and Spearhead's latest album, bought after a great performance at Grennbelt. The album is quality, a great mix of anthems and ballards and all things in between. One Step Closer is wonderful!
    (Warning football posts ahead!)
  2. Xabi Alonso's goal. Football fans you'll appreciate this...

Old News

304894_mediumsquare Today the Times published research into that great debate of who is the greatest English football club. They awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw of every match each club has played since the start of the English football league.
Top of the league: you guessed it, the mighty reds (L-I-V-E-R-P-O-O-L F-C)!
Barky's toffee (Everton) were sixth in the table and Jonny Baker's Chelski were 14th; just behind Huddersfield Town.
